Horry County Schools 2008 Summer Reading Initiative – Grades 9-12 Why should students read over the summer?
The purpose of Horry County Schools’ Summer Reading Initiative is to promote a love of reading and to continue developing critical thinking skills. Research shows that students who continue reading throughout the summer experience less academic loss. The Summer Reading Initiative will establish a springboard for reflection and reading celebration in the fall. Summer provides the perfect opportunity to continue to support the development of lifelong reading habits by encouraging our students to read. I am reading the book "Fallen Angels" By Walter Dean Myers. It is a good book so far, it is about a bunch of guys that go to the army thinking that it is going to be fun, and acting like big men, but but find out that it is not a game.

I am still reading "Fallen Angels" by Walter Dean Myers. Now the men are on a plane and they are being shot at, they are all scared, and praying that they don't get killed.
