I have selected a novel titled Driver's Ed by Caroline B. Cooney. I chose this book for two reasons. First, many of my students in the past have liked this author, especially the novel The Face on the Milk Carton, and I thought it would be a book that I might recommend in the future. Also, I chose it because the cover makes it look enticing with the stop sign upside down. I'm going to predict that since it is about students who drive during driver's ed class with a teacher who doesn't seem to be on top of things that an accident will occur. Thus far, the narrator has revealed that their teacher is listening to his walkman rather than teaching the students about driving. I wonder how long before the plot will reveal an accident.

Hi Mrs. Crowley!
I read The Face on the Milk Carton, and I liked it very much. Caroline B. Cooney is an excellent author and kept me very interested in her book - most of the time. :) But When you finish Driver's Ed, let me know how it is. I am already in a way wanting to read it.

Marina,
As I continued my reading yesterday, a student driver got nervous when a fellow student rider screadmed, "Look out!" Instead of the student driver hitting the brakes, she hit the gas pedal. Needless to say, it caused great excitement inside the car and did some damage to the driver's ed. car. What I found amazing as a teacher is that the driver's ed. teacher paid no attention to the situation as it unfolded. He had a walkman on and seemed like he didn't care if the students or the car were hurt. I have a feeling that Cooney is painting a negative image of the instructor, reasonably so. I am curious to see what the outcome of this incident will be. Will the teacher get into trouble? Will the student be held responsible to pay for the damages and get kicked out of class? I hope you can get a copy to read, and we can exchange our reactions.

Elvis, your book sounds interesting. I bet there is a lot more to driving a race car than people think. Otherwise, there would not be certain people who are so much better at it. The history of Nascar is actually very fascinating. Enjoy!
